Nearest train staion (the TGV runs to here) is at Perpignan and there is a regular bus service between the station and Barcares all year round.
Perpignan is at 23 Kms, Narbonne is at 46kms, Carcassonne at 105kms, and for those keen on other parts of Europe, Andorra with its skiing and tax free status is a mere 185 kms, Barcelona is 214 kms away - a quick hop over the border and then a charming drive through southern Spain.
Port Barcares boasts 8 kms of fine sand beaches stretching along the Mediterranean and it is also bordered by the salt lake Etang de Salses (7000 hectares), which is regarded as one of the great nature beauty spots of Europe.
The Barcares beaches have the blue flag proving the quality of the water and Barcares won first prize in the "Concours départemental des villes fleuries".
Climate
Languedoc-Roussillon is one of the warmest areas of France, where daytime temperatures can easily top 30 degrees in the summer. In the region of Perpignan, in particular, which has the highest number of sunhours in France, you can sit outside on one of the many charming terraces from early spring to late autumn.
